Jennifer Nelson, LICSW
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker–Supervisor (LICSW-S) in Alabama and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in North Carolina, with more than 16 years of experience working with teens, adults, couples, and families. Throughout my career, I have supported clients navigating a variety of life, career, relationship, and mental and emotional health challenges.
Who I Work Best With
I work with teens, adults, couples, and families who are navigating a variety of personal, emotional, relational, and life challenges.
I also enjoy working with clients who are seeking greater self-awareness, personal growth, and healthier patterns in their relationships and daily lives.
Mental Health Conditions & Specialties
I support clients experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, trauma-related concerns, relationship and communication challenges, life transitions, career concerns, grief and loss, self-esteem, boundaries, and emotional regulation.
I also work with clients who want to better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, develop healthier patterns, and create meaningful change in their everyday lives.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is integrative and individualized. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor treatment to each client's goals, needs, experiences, and personality.
Therapy may include exploring patterns and past experiences, developing practical coping skills, challenging unhelpful thoughts, strengthening emotional regulation, and identifying meaningful opportunities for change.
What Sessions Feel Like
I believe therapy should feel authentic, welcoming, supportive, and purposeful. As a therapist who also has my own therapist, I understand and honor the courage and vulnerability it takes to be on either side of the therapeutic relationship.
My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, supportive, structured, and appropriately challenging. I listen without judgment while also providing honest feedback, thoughtful questions, and perspective when appropriate.
I believe meaningful therapy involves both support and accountability. When helpful, I provide individualized homework and between-session activities so clients can practice skills and continue their therapeutic work outside of sessions.
Why Choose Me?
I bring extensive clinical experience while remaining genuine, approachable, and relatable. My goal is to provide a therapeutic relationship in which clients feel seen, supported, challenged, and empowered.
I do not believe therapy is about simply telling clients what to do. Rather, it is about helping individuals better understand themselves, develop effective tools, and feel more confident navigating their lives and relationships.
Availability & Sessions
I provide both in-office and telehealth therapy services.
At this time, I am accepting new clients who specifically request me for services. Availability may vary, and prospective clients are encouraged to inquire regarding current openings.
