Dominique Cecil, LPC-S | Lead Clinician

Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Dominique Cecil has called Alabama home since she was 10 years old. Before becoming a therapist, Dominique dreamed of becoming a vocalist and spent much of her childhood training as a musical performer.

After experiencing a season of personal hurt and disillusionment, Dominique discovered a new purpose: helping others navigate their own difficult experiences without having to face them alone.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Vocal Performance from the University of Montevallo, followed by a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Dominique began her counseling career just three weeks after graduation, working at a foster care agency where she spent six years and received four promotions before becoming Regional Clinical Coordinator.

Her journey into private practice began with one client who was struggling with insurance barriers. Dominique provided free sessions while establishing Yellow Bird Counseling, LLC. What started as an effort to help one person soon grew through referrals into the practice it is today.

As the founder of Yellow Bird Counseling, Dominique is passionate about helping people who are hurting. She believes therapy should be personal, compassionate, and tailored to each individual’s experiences and goals.

For Dominique, therapy is more than a career. It’s a calling and a way of life.

Who I Work Best With

I work with individuals who are seeking support, healing, and meaningful change. I believe every person brings a unique set of experiences to therapy, and I take the time to understand the individual behind those experiences.

My approach is especially suited for individuals who are looking for a therapist who will take a thorough, individualized approach to understanding their experiences and helping them work toward their goals.

Whether you are working through a difficult season, processing past experiences, or simply looking for support as you move forward, therapy can provide a space to be heard, understood, and supported.

Mental Health Conditions & Specialties

My work focuses on providing individualized mental health support based on each client's unique experiences, needs, and goals.

Rather than approaching therapy with a one-size-fits-all mindset, I take the time to understand the circumstances affecting each individual and use that understanding to guide the therapeutic process.

My professional background includes extensive experience working within the foster care and behavioral health settings, including six years of experience at a foster care agency and service as a Regional Clinical Coordinator.

This experience has given me the opportunity to work with individuals facing a wide range of life experiences and challenges.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is thorough, individualized, and goal-oriented. I believe every client deserves to be understood as an individual rather than being defined by a diagnosis, circumstance, or past experience.

I take the time to learn about each client's individual experiences and use that understanding to help guide our work together.

My role is to provide guidance and support while helping clients identify and work toward the goals that are important to them.

I believe therapy should provide a space where clients can feel supported while also being encouraged to move toward meaningful change.

What Sessions Feel Like

Sessions with me are designed to be individualized, supportive, and focused on your goals.

We will take time to understand your experiences, identify what you would like to work on, and determine how therapy can best support you.

I believe in being thorough and attentive to the individual experiences that shape each client. Because of this, the direction of therapy may look different from person to person.

My goal is for you to feel heard and understood while also gaining greater clarity about the goals you want to accomplish.

Why Clients Choose Me

Clients choose to work with me because I take the time to understand the person behind their circumstances.

I am thorough and intentional in my work, recognizing that no two clients have the exact same experiences or needs.

My six years of experience working within a foster care agency, along with my experience as a Regional Clinical Coordinator, have helped shape the way I understand and support individuals navigating difficult experiences.

I also understand firsthand the importance of having access to compassionate mental health support. My journey into private practice began when I provided free sessions to a client experiencing insurance difficulties.

That experience ultimately led to the creation of Yellow Bird Counseling, LLC and its mission of helping those who are hurting.
